Can someone explain to me how someone getting a train from Harwich Town

I made the journey today and, whilst fully prepared to pay, was unable
to do so - at either end or on board the train!
In theory, someone should have come round and sold you a ticket on the
train.
I'm surprised you were unable to buy your ticket at Liverpool Street.
How hard did you try?
I made the journey FROM Harwich TO Liverpool Street. Was I expected
then to queue up at the ticket office and explain that I was seeking to
pay for a journey I had already made?
Personally I wouldn't expect anyone to, although it would be the
'right' thing to do. I was just commenting on the fact that you said
you were "unable" to pay for the journey at either end.
