Strictly speaking not "tube", although this is increasingly used to describe the whole London Underground system, not just the deep-bored
lines. The Metropolitan used to run out to Aylesbury (not to mention Verney Junction and Brill, but that's a different story), with teak carriages
hauled by electric locomotives as far as Rickmansworth, then steam (latterly supplied by LNER/BR). When electrification was extended to
Amersham new electric multiple-unit stock was provided, and the Underground no longer served Amersham to Aylesbury.
