Binning the finsbury park to east finchley track I think has to rate
as one of the dumbest decisions in the history of london railways.
Aside from being a far quicker route to the city than via the current
northern line it would have allowed all sorts of combinations of
through running of mainline trains too. Perhaps east finchley could
even have become an eventual terminus for the new east london line.
I'm sure I saw at one point, many years ago, plans for the ELL to go
from Highbury to Finsbury Park, then across the Parkland Walk to
Highgate and on to take over the Mill Hill East branch of the Northern
Line and terminate there. That obviously came to nothing.
