Two standard stock tube trains passing at North Weald under
semaphore signalling - that was something to remember.
The signaller had to be careful not to pull both signals off at once. Two
trains starting at North Weald at the same time would trip the circuit
breakers at Epping!
I believe the problems only started when they began using 4 car 1959
stock units.
IIRC (bearing in mind it's nearly 50 years ago), when it was first
electrified 2 car (DM+DT) units were used, and these were then replaced
with the 1935 experimental stock, also 2 car.
I have a photo of one such unit at Ongar in April 1965.
What I don't know (maybe you can help) is whether the 1960 stock ever
made it to Ongar.
