Default El sections of LU

David Metzger:
incidently in NYC the locals call it a subway whether its subway or el.

This is because the original els were a *separate* system, with lighter
trains than the subway. The el sections that survive (almost all of
them outside Manhattan) were upgraded to take subway trains, and became
part of the subway system.

in Chicago its called the el whether el or subway

Actually, in Chicago they often spell it L or 'L'.
