How about scrapping the circle as it is, scrapping the Olympia
shuttle, and running Olympia-Olympia via the circle instead?
Flat junction apocalypse!
And maybe fill in the missing SW corner of the circle by running a
few H&C trains to South Ken or Gloucester Road.
Are there currently reversing bays or such at either of those? ISTR
there's some kind of funny arrangement at Gloucester Road which might
make this plausible.
Also, not sure the Hammersmith posse will like losing some of their
handful of trains.
One earlier idea wass to combine the H&C and the Circle by running
Hammersmith - Edgware Road - Liverpool Street - Embankment - High
Street Kensington - Edgware Road - Liverpool Street - Barking.
I think this makes a lot of sense - it's exactly like the present H&C
and Circle patterns, except trains switch identities every time they go
past Baker Street. The only problem is if you want to go from
Hammersmith to Barking, but who does? What was the problem with it - is
the duty too long or something?
If you want to go from Hammersmith to Barking, you take the District
Line.
