This is typical of the ignorant and illogical comments coming out
of Richmond at present. If the base option is built, passengers
from Richmond would get to Paddington faster than they currently
get to Hammersmith, and their journey from Paddington to Heathrow
would also be quicker than the Piccadilly line.

But the Heathrow Express costs a bomb. Would it still be so expensive
after Crossrail?

Exactly. And at best you'd be paying for two extra zones.

Only one more, if you go via Paddington, compared with your existing
Richmond-Hammersmith-Heathrow route. But if you're worried about cost,
then change at Turnham Green to the Piccadilly (assuming TfL agree to stop
it there to link to Crossrail), and you have one less zone than currently.

If people can afford an air ticket from Heathrow they can afford the
train journey most likely. The HEX seems designed for business
travellers who don't pay anyway. Crossrail will probably be expensive
but people will still pay because it would be much quicker and better
than any other way of doing things.

What is meant by a premium on the DLR to Lewisham?
