On the Northern line all 7 car trains were driving motor, motor, trailer
with two compressors, driving motor, driving motor, trailer with two
compressors, driving motor.

That's 1938 stock though, isn't it, rather than standard stock?

Six-car standard stock only had two motor cars I think, while seven-
car trains had three.

I may have been confused with 1959 stock in a previous post, where the
arrangement is pretty much the same as for 1938 stock, except that the
NDM isn't adjacent to the outer DM.

That is, in the 1959 stock, the second coach from the end was always a
trailer. Apparently not so with the 1938 stock, with the four-car
unit the other way round.
