Yes the station should be open for the start of the winter timetable
in Decemeber after been given the go-ahad by Merton Council in August.
The station is part of a new concept station for Network Rail and they
decided to use Eastfields to test it out. The funding is all in place.
Building work is proceeding quickly and by all accounts the station
should be up and running by December, if the deadline is missed it
will be open by May 2008. At the moment only trains bound for or from
Victoria are scheduled to stop at the station though talk does exist
that First Capital Connect will stop at Eastfields though apparently
problems exist with them stopping at the moment due to the timetable.
When the timetable is revamped in December 2009 that may change. Very
good news and it will be a big boost for the local area.

I've read about this somewhere, isn't the idea that a somewhat basic station
is prefabricated off site and delivered on a few lorries? Possibly they've
looked back at some of the 'el cheapo' stations in the region - Berrylands
on the SWML looks as though it was knocked up pretty quickly...

The interesting thing is that the line is on a slight curve at this
point, and i thought stations built on curves were now a big no no?!!
Berrylands went up in the 1930s and i dont think took too long!
The best example of a pre-made station was Leeds Whitehall, built for
the purpose of trains that could not stop at Leeds during the big
reworking. Don't know where it is now, but it certainly isnt there
anymore!
