but continuing through to a connection to the south of the station,
with no other down line connection.


That must be the logical way to do it in the down direction, to avoid having
to wait for a single slow line platform to become free. Hasn't it been
discussed here before that there unfortunately isn't room on the up side to
do the same?



The existing ELL platform was a through platform until relatively
recently (if not used as such). I've noticed in the last couple of
years that the track continuing south has been taken up, but I don't
know when it happened. Maybe too much trouble to maintain.
