Default London day trip - which travel card?

I was going to write much the same. The vital missing piece of data is
where the OP is starting his journey from.

In my case, starting from Cambridge with a Network Card, far and away the
cheaper option than any others mentioned here is a Day Travelcard, £3.30
over the price of a day return to the London Terminal station.

It's only not worth it if I'm only making up to two Zone 1 tube trips, in
which case I use my little used but TfL rip-off avoidance device Oyster
Card. They cost £1.50 each on Oyster, BTW.
