Are there any left in London?

AFAIK the one in Northwick Park is still the a sign forbids the public
from using it, but that didn't stop me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paternoster#United_Kingdom says there's also
one in Viscount House, a private BA building at Heathrow.

what happens if you don't get off at the top (or indeed, bottom)
floor?

Nobody knows.

Seriously. People have tried going 'over the top', or sending cameras
through or whatever, but nothing ever comes back.

Well, I came back, and the right way up at that. And, as Max Bygraves
used to say, to prove it I'm here.

This was at CAV in Acton in the 60s.

Although on occasion, there are times when nothing goes over, but
*something* comes down ...
