Actually, quite a few car enthusiasts on misc.transport.road both
support investment in rail AND some USE rail passenger service.

I'm an habitué of uk.railway, but am definitely a 'carhead' (I do a lot more
miles in a car than on the rails and currently own 5 cars/Land Rovers.) I
work in both the highways and rail industries and see no reason why the two
modes can't exist side by side with appropriate investment in each.

They key word is *appropriate*.
