They will lie to you. I've once intervened when someone with a great
big suitcase was being told to go the long way round out of the
station.

No doubt it's the instructions they've been given, with who knows what
threat behind them, like the drivers being told to make bizarre
announcements.

But in the last couple of weeks, there was a passenger alarm at London
Bridge and therefore nothing coming on the Northern. The staff were
suddenly admitting that the Central Line existed after all and
directing people to it (via precisely the normal route).

This was with straight faces and no hint of embarrassment.
