OT - Parking in Cambridge

Those rising bollards in Silver Street still baffle me, though: if
the object is to prevent traffic from the obvious Trumpington /Silve
r Street bottleneck, why force traffic down that very junction because
it's impossible to approach Queens' from Queens' Road?
They are a compromise because the rest of the road system couldn't cope
with Silver Street (which is far too narrow nearer to town for the traffic
it used to carry) to be completely closed. It's open for tidal flow - in
during the morning peak, out in the evenings. The latter go on till
midnight to allow the Grand Arcade car park to have two exit routes (see
my earlier comments on attempts to empty it all at once).
