According to the 2004 Fares leaflet there is only talk about pre-pay
oyster tickets being cheaper than the increased prices.

Maybe my memory is wrong BUT I thought that in the summer when all
the Oyster spin was taking place, we were told that Oystercard ticket
prices would stay the same in 2004 as 2003.

According to the 2004 fares leaflet a Monthly Travelcard (Z1,2&3) is
rising from £88.88 to £91.40. Is there a special price for an Oyster
monthly ?

The TfL press release of 9 August 2003 said "The price of Tube travel
will be frozen for passengers using the Oyster smartcard" and "From
next year Tube passengers using the Oyster smartcard will pay 2003
prices for their journeys". It seems that this was meant to apply to
Pre Pay only, but they didn't actually say that. If so, that's highly
misleading. I've mailed TfL to say so and ask for clarification.

The reply from TfL received today admitted that the press release "wasn't
as clear as it should have been." They say that the 2003 fares will apply
only to single Tube and single DLR journeys paid for using Pre-Pay (also
bus and tram single journeys from later in 2004 when Pre-Pay becomes
available on those services), and that a new press release to clarify this
will be issued next week.
