I don't see the connection.

E.g, I was surprised to discover last week that Botswana, a country
with an area twice the size of the UK, has a total population of only
1.3 million.
OTOH Bangladesh has half the area of the UK and a population of 125
million.
What does any of that prove (other than Botswana is sparsely
populated and Bangladesh is not)?

It proves that Bangladesh is in need of a light rail rapid urban transit
system, while Botswana could manage with just a high-speed line linking
the main areas of population...

Unfortunately Botswana is withdrawing its remaining passenger rail
services next month.
