I popped along to St Pancras International earlier today to explore
the new ticket hall, and saw that Stratford International was included
in the list of stops for the Ebbsfleet services, but it wasn't
included in the list of stations on the ticket machines up on the
Southeastern platforms (just a fare to 'Stratford').

So that was an undexpected cluster****. I wanted to keep my ticket,
and was worried about the gates at Stratford International eating it.
But there was a big sign saying "please retain your ticket for
inspection on the bus", so I put it in the gate, and of course it was
eaten.

After a bit of hassling the throng of gatestaff ("it's meant to do
that mate") I got it back. No inspection on the bus, but there was at
the temporary entrance at Stratford regional (god knows what happens
if you don't have one - are you doomed to wander the Olympic Park
forever? And of course there are no Oyster readers to touch in, and. I
ended up going to the Central Line platforms where I knew there were
some.

The bus stop at SI is on the north side, so the bus has to do a long
detour around the end of the station cutting to get to SR. A bus
turning circle has been created at SR in the V between the Lea Valley
and mainline platforms, accessed from a gate at the far, far end of
platform 11 (ignore my comment about 11 being the northernmost, I was
thinking of 12).

A few more points:
- Even if I had been let in to SR without a ticket, I would have been
trapped inside the gareline.
- I spotted four buses on the service (all of then nearly empty, of
course).
- There's no sign of any facilities or sprucing up at SI. it's very
grim, even compared to Ebbsfleet.

I turned up at St Pancras today and asked if my travelcard was valid
(from my local station plus zones 1-6). It gave 'seek assistance' on
the gate, but the nice man had a look at it, saw that it said 'any
permitted' and let me through. It was also gripped on the train and
then again failed to open the gate at Stratford International - let
through again without any complaints. I don't know that this means
that travelcards are really valid here though... I got my unguided
tour on a bus around the Olympic site - as the only passenger - round
to platform 11 and back into Stratford 'Regional' .

Thanks for that, Interesting stuff. How long would you say the
transfer is from SFA to SRA? The SE website seems to say it`s a 20-
minute bus journey and a five minute walk. Surely it's not 20 minutes?

The timestamps on my photos put the journey as a little over five
minutes, including a couple of waits at traffic lights and gates
within the site. Officially the buses leave 5 minutes after each
train, but last night they appeared to be running on a continuous
loop.

I made a map last night while trying to figure out where the bus

I can't see why normal travelcards should be valid - doesn't a ticket
need to be routed "plus high speed" to be valid? The fare for
Stratford to St Pancras appears to be £5 single, £6.50 off-peak
return, £8.50 anytime return which isn't in line with the normal fares
within the zones but actually works out cheaper than the rail+tube
London fares. One wonders whether a travelcard routed "plus High
Speed" - e.g. from a Kent origin would be valid for unlimited travel
between Stratford International and St Pancras.

I note that there are returns to London routed "plus High Speed" from
Great Eastern origins but only point to point - no travelcards.

All the published info clearly states that 'travelcards' (ie zones 1-6 only)
are not valid.
But were you using an 'outboundary travelcard' form an origin in Kent
somewhere?

I'm not clear on what is happening with via HS1 fares. There are two from
Cambridge to Ashford (for example), via HS1 or not, but they cost the same!
