What's with the no Thameslink services today?

A guy at Streatham station got a spiel from the Help Point about how
the rolling stock is so old the couplings are frozen and hecne can't
be got out of the depot.
Is this total crap?

I've now seen relevant posting in uk.railway and it is all about
couplings and motor not handling cold very well.

Its the old and decrepit drivers who can't be bothered to get out of
bed to do a full day's work, coupled with incompetant management who
can't be bothered to sort the problems out. There's a debate on the
issues at uk.railway CJB.

I found

"Rail passengers travelling with Southeastern were warned some trains
would have fewer carriages as several had damage to their coupling gear
caused by the icy weather."

You misunderstood. He wasn't asking for someone to invent some total
crap.

Is that really a feasible excuse? I mean, there are other places in the
world where it gets a lot colder than in London, yet EMU-class trains
there continue running without a problem.

Ice inside the electrical connectors, which then "bends the contact
pins" if you force them together?

Similarly, there are places in the world where it gets a lot warmer
than London, yet private houses there are pleasantly cool in the
summer.
