Would be nice but we have a problem with loading gauge - to use trains like those would require rebuilding lots of bridges and tunnels so that the top of the train is far enough from the top of the tunnel/bridge. Or that's the usual explanation trotted out when the idea of DD trains appears. I was also asking about the capacity of the tracks approaching Marylebone. While DD trains can add capacity without needing to change signaling there comes a point when (if traffic continues to grow) more trains are required. How close are the tracks into Marylebone to capacity given existing signaling etc? |
