What is this passing over Shoreditch High Street? A former railway viaduct?

No longer 'former'. It was refurbished a few years ago as part of the
advance works, and the reopened East London Line uses it.

The 'Multimap' aerial view shows it refurbished, and the adjacent viaducts
ready for track laying...

When was the original line closed, and what was it called?

It was part of the North London Railway, which ran into Broad St station
(next to Liverpool St Station, but since completely demolished and now
the site is an office complex)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_London_Railway

"The line from Dalston Junction to Poplar was heavily damaged during the
blitz. Passenger service from Broad Street to Poplar via Victoria Park
and Bow was not reinstated at the end of the war (its official closure
was 14 May 1944). The section from Broad Street to Dalston Junction was
closed on 30 June 1986."

Is it too early to call it 'reopened'?
(It's currently being tested with new trains; the route is due to re-
open for public use in the next couple of months.)

ready for track laying...

As seen he

their Bird's Eye View has it in an earlier stage of construction, with
the bridge surrounded by scaffolding and sheeting:

The Google Street View image appears to show it post-refurbishment:

1986 - not sure what the line was publicly known as, but services ran into
the now closed Broad St station. Was it just known as the North London Line?

Broad St was *the* North London Railway terminus.

Yes - I understand that - but was it referred to by users back then as the
North London Line?
