Given that this was to be a completely soft launch, this won't affect

What else to say, other than: "Typical."

Cambridgeshire Guided Busway
Edinburgh Tram

(Feel free to add to the list.)

What deluded people into thinking that this one would be any different?

How can it be late given this is a "soft" launch and no public date has
been announced other than 23 May 2010 and we are weeks away from that
date?

The projects you list are months and possibly years late with unresolved
commercial disputes that have been chucked into the public domain by one
or both aggrieved parties. There is also no visible prospect of the
outstanding works being resumed / completed and certainly no test
running taking place.

I am not aware of major public rows about the ELLX's contracts nor have
I seen test running *not* happening - quite the opposite in fact if my
camera hasn't been lying to me.

I'm as disappointed as the next man that I won't get a ride tomorrow but
to suggest it is in the same category as the two projects above is just
utterly wrong and without foundation.

I appreciate we all love a "disaster story" but the ELLX is not one. If
it is not running on 23/5/10 then by all means start lobbing bricks but
until then .... well a sense of proportion would be a sensible step.

Thus far, the making of the ELLX appears to have been a success story
- I believe the project is within budget and has been delivered on
time. Bombardier have had some problems delivering 378's on time I
suppose, but in the end that hasn't had an impact on the ELLX as far
as I can tell. Though there was the calamitous GE19 bridge collapse
event, lest we forget!

TfL better hope that they win the claim that the contractors are putting
together for overspends on unscoped work then.
