![]() And why not? It's not as if a significant proportion of the people in Tottenham and Brixton were planning on trying to get to Notting Hill... Numerous other bits of lines shut too, including one of the platforms at Latimer Road shut for lengthening work! AFAIR there has been no closures on any part of LU in previous years... If it's a Boris decision, it's a strange one. |

For Totterers, and others in the vicinity of the Lea Valley lines, the best route is surely down to Liverpool Street and the Central line anyway? From Brixton itself, train to Victoria and Circle round the corner seems just as good as a Victoria line route, and for the other stations down there, the alternatives are not as good, but do exist. Numerous other bits of lines shut too, including one of the platforms at Latimer Road shut for lengthening work! Now that *is* an odd decision. He's got a track record in doing for festivals - see Rise - so maybe he's siding with the Notting Hill NIMBYs and trying to strangle the carnival too. tom -- science fiction, old TV shows, sports, food, New York City topography, and golden age hiphop |

Given the vast number of people who go to Carnival (presumably) out of their own free-will, I'd say 'yes', quite a few people would give a damn. You can't argue with the sheer number of people who will be going, this year. Very few of whom will be drug dealers. I'd expect there are people from all parts of the political spectrum there, too ... so not just 'lefties'. |

Make them may the price of the V festival or glastonbury and then see how many show up. I'd wager there'd be more people on the floats than in the crowd. B2003 |

Why should the taxpayer fund it? B2003 |

Why should the taxpayer fund it? And the UEFA Champions League is a credit card advert dressed up as a football competition ... The taxpayer was left with the bill for Rise because Boris wouldn't allow it to promote what the sponsors were trying to promote. I don't suppose the sponsors of any event would pay up if their aims or products weren't allowed to be promoted at the event. |

If Boris stopped it turning into some barely disguised political rally then good. My experience is that it turned into a lucrative event for the same food and drink sellers and fairground ride owners regardless of sponsor. The political side may have been the intention of the sponsors, but the "turning" was in the other direction. |

Latimer Road will have a platform closed for nearly a year. Currently trains are not stopping westbound, in December they will start on the eastbound platform. I don't think it is feasible to reopen the plaform for two days when they are in the middle of completely rebuilding it. Peter Smyth |
