King's Cross Thameslink validators
 

There are Carnet/Oyster validators at end of the long passage from KXSP
tube station to the Thameslink station, enabling pax transferring
between the tube and Thameslink to go straight to the appropriate platform.

Unfortunately the Oyster validators are constantly marked as "Closed"...
meaning you have to go up to the Pentonville Road TL ticket office to
get your ticket (despite there being a good ticket machine right next to
the validators). This isn't brilliant, but it's more of a pain in the
reverse direction since you have to leave your TL train, go up to the
Pentonville Road exit, exit through the barriers with your TL ticket and
turn round to go straight back in again with your Oyster! It's bound to
pull a few odd looks.

I wonder if anyone knows whether this is likely to get fixed soon, or
even the reason why the Oyster validators are constantly "Closed"?

It's not that long if you arrive on the Victoria line. :-)

I'm sure you have a good reason for having a Thamelink ticket and an
Oyster Pre-Pay (otherwise you wouldn't have to validate it), but this
begs the obvious question: why (or can't you?) don't you get a through
ticket that covers the entire journey?

Victoria and then go that way instead of getting the Piccadilly straight
there (which feels like an eternity!) :-)

The obvious answer: it's cheaper to use prepay for the tube journey
(£1.60 vs £2.00).

Although that's just made me think. Does the railcard discount now apply
to both portions of a combined tube/rail ticket? And in which case would
Z1 - Luton on a railcard therefore be cheaper than prepay + KXTL
Luton? Hmm...

This is quite baffling. There is no district line at KxStP, and if
you've already got to KxStP via the Victoria line, why not stay on it
to Victoria (where there are Dictrict line trains (and circles)
to South Ken.

You misunderstood. The previous poster said that the Victoria line
platforms at KXSP are closer to KX Thameslink than the Piccadilly
platforms... I replied that therefore to avoid the long walk sometimes I
catch the District Line from Gloucester Road to Victoria and then the
Victoria Line from there to KXSP, especially since sometimes it is
quicker than getting the Piccadilly all the way.
