UK motoring : "The AA"

I have always thought that "The AA" should be pronounced "The A A", as
it undoubtedly was when I joined. On the other hand, that was some
while ago, and AFAIR it must be over a decade since the last occasion on
which I recall hearing it authoritatively pronounced.

And I believe that the US version, the American Automobile Association,
is called the "Triple A".

Has the pronunciation "Double-A" crept into acceptable UK usage?

Never heard it. I've always heard them referred as 'The A A'. The definite
article helps to distinguish them from 'A A', those fond of a drink.
