Funny tram sign
http://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=51.3753...170.57,,3,0.13 The sign seems to be telling any tram coming down Canning Road that it is allowed to turn left, but there have never been any tram tracks in Canning Road. Is this just a mistake, or is there some legal reason for that tram sign being there? Here's another, so it's not a one-off. http://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=51.3751.... 63,,0,-1.42 In this one, http://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=51.3751...0.7 5,,2,0.55 I would have thought a "no entry" would suffice. Surely road signs as we know them do not apply to trams using off-road tramways, so they could go through a "No entry" with impunity. |

At a similar junction in Nottingham they have "No Entry - Except Trams" http://goo.gl/maps/z6jOo Plus an "Ahead only" for road vehicles on the traffic lights. -- Roland Perry |

... The sign seems to be telling any tram coming down Canning Road that it is allowed to turn left, but there have never been any tram tracks in Canning Road. Is this just a mistake, or is there some legal reason for that tram sign being there? It isn't telling non-existing trams to turn left because it isn't a 'direction sign' for approaching vehicles. The white on blue colour code of the sign tells you that it is an 'advance information sign' describing the restrictions in the street beyond the junction. Think of it as information 'about trams' not 'for trams'. It's basic highway code stuff this, it's the type of sign on page 7 he http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum.../dg_070644.pdf Your second example is similarly not giving direction information to trams, it is advising all users of a timed restriction due to trams. I can't really see an issue with it. Your third example is probably just belt and braces - as IIRC in normal circumstances emergency vehicles might often go through a no-entry sign to overtake slow moving queues - perhaps not a good idea here... It reminds me of one of my favourite Curb Your Enthusiasm scenes where Larry is late for a sports match, so he pays a hooker to ride in his car with him so he can use the HOV lane. |

Wasn't the M4 bus lane actually bus+taxi+HOV? And Wikipedia says that there's one on the A647 in Leeds. -- David Cantrell | Bourgeois reactionary pig Hail Caesar! Those about to vi ^[ you! |

Wasn't the M4 bus lane actually bus+taxi+HOV? No, though motorbikes were allowed to use it. And because it wasn't enforced, Addison Lee told their drivers to use it. And Wikipedia says that there's one on the A647 in Leeds. That's the one I've come across before. |
