Off-peak hours on Oyster?
According to TfL's Single Fare Finder, I can get a railcard discount only
outside peak hours, quoted as from 0630 to 0930 and from 1600 to 1900. Yet my journey history for yesterday clearly shows journey details as: 16:02 - 16:19 Waterloo [London Underground / National Rail] to Liverpool Street [London Underground] charged at £1.40. Anyone here understand why? -- Colin Rosenstiel |

Anyone here understand why? Just an idea, but I think it sometimes gives you off-peak rates slightly into peak times, presumably to allow for small errors in the system clock. |

Is it to allow for walking time from the barrier to the platform train, and waiting time for the train to arrive? |

That was the only rational explanation I could think of. I thought as I came out of my meeting in Smith Square that there was no way I could get into the tube before 4 so got a 507 bus (free to me) to Waterloo. I touched in somewhere in the bowels of Waterloo on my way to the W&C platform. I imagine that they've found that being slightly generous like this saves a lot of complaints and calls to the Oyster helpline. So it would appear. Something to consider next time a meeting ends close to 4. -- Colin Rosenstiel |
