Can you recommend any heritage railways within day trip distance from
London?

I went to the Bluebell Railway last year, and it was a huge success. I
have also been on the Epping Ongar Railway.

Or anything else transport related between 8 and 19 June.

Isle of Wight? You could combine several things:

Isle of Wight Steam Railway
1938 tube trains operating the 'main line' service (Island Line)
Hovercraft from Portsmouth - one of the few left

You can combine them on one ticket:
http://www.hovertravel.co.uk/attract...lway/index.php

There's also the Isle of Wight Bus Museum at Ryde (that I know nothing
about)

Portsmouth is 1h40 from London, then a bit of time to walk/bus to Southsea
for the Hovercraft, or the regular Wightlink ferry connects directly with
the train.

The latter is a lot more convenient, and gives you the rare opportunity to
take a London tube on a seaside pier. Even if you don't travel on the
hovercraft, you can at least view them.

I took these pics on a similar excursion last year:

Brooklands Museum, Weybridge

The Museum displays a wide range of Brooklands-related motoring and aviation
exhibits ranging from giant racing cars, motorcycles and bicycles to an
unparalleled collection of Hawker and Vickers/ BAC-built aircraft, including
the Second World War Wellington Bomber, Viking, Varsity, Viscount, Vanguard,
VC10, BAC One-Eleven and the only Concorde with public access in South East
England

London Bus Museum is located on the Brooklands site between Weybridge and
Byfleet in Surrey and shares a common visitor entrance with Brooklands
Museum. One entry ticket covers admission to both museums.

And next door Mercedes-Benz World

Is Bovington Tank Museum "transport related" ?

Here's a Kindle freebie (for a few days)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00N0A0SCC/

A Week in England: Sights in London and South England by Dan Worsham
(American from Ohio)

Interesting locations in London and southern England. Specifically,
historical sites, and attractions related to cars, ships, airplanes, and
military history (71 pp)

Includes Brooklands and Portsmouth but not Duxford.

Not really. It is tank related(!).

If you want to see tanks, it is world-class and definitely worth a
visit. Leaving aside any preferences about what exact things they have
in their collections, IMHO it's better as a museum than the French
equivalent in Saumur (between Tours and Angers); I've not done the
German one. There is a Russian one which is meant to have a good
collection but is difficult (impossible?) to visit.

But if you want transport, then Bovington is probably not a priority.

There was a dedicated Museum of Army Transport but a) it was on a branch
line in East Yorkshire, so while technically feasible it was not
sensible as a day trip from London and b) it closed and was demolished
years ago.
