Why not just leave it extended as you go up

It's people coming down that seem to automatically collapse the handle
because the case is often on the step behind them and therefore at a
higher level.

It's people coming down that seem to automatically collapse the handle
because the case is often on the step behind them and therefore at a
higher level.


Also, it's commonplace for escalators not to cover the entire vertical
rise, so carrying the case up a few stairs at either the bottom or the
top means the passenger has already lowered the handle before getting on
the escalator.

That works! Not so going down.


Put the suitcase on the tread behind you and drag it off the escalator,
then. Really, creating a situation in which the person following you off
the escalator could crash into you because you've come to a stop isn't
good form.
