No. Pokémons are only on your phone, geocaches are real physical
objects.

but their being located in certain real word incarnations of the virtual
location has upset the owners of these real world locations (apparently)

Hardly surprising, is it?

Especially when on private property.

I was just pointing out that because they are in virtual locations doesn't
mean that the user doesn't need to be at a specific physical location

Agreed. (Or can you use a location-spoofing app?)

Once again I'd like to say how amazed I am with Google Maps. It is such a good app, specifically Street View.

There is also a good game that one can play based on the app: https://geoguessr.com/ . Quite good fun, and free. You are deposited in five parts of the world and you have to guess where.

A VR headset?

That's just a way to observe the Pokemon app, which assumes you are
on-site.
