Does anyone have details of Concorde's route from Heathrow down to the
Thames to be loaded onto a barge for it's journey to Scotland.

I've heard it's supposed to be early Sunday morning (4th).

Cheers,
Steve.

Check out www.concordesst.com. There are some details on the 'Latest News'
pages and more on the Forum pages.

Bear in mind that Alpha Alpha will not look much like a Concorde, having
been parted from her nose, tail and having had the outer portions of the
wings cut off. She may also already be wrapped in protective film to keep
the salty North Sea from damaging her en route to Torness.

Sacrilege.

Why can't they fly the poor ol' sod, and give a few more people a last
look?

Thanks, but I was hoping for an exact route and times? Anyone?

It'll still be a sight to see. Those roads down to the river in Isleworth
are not that big!

Cheers,
Steve.

This particular Concorde (G-BOAA) has not flown since August 2000 and does
not have a certificate of airworthiness. It was one of two that were not
modified (the other is Alpha Bravo, which is now on display adjacent to one
of the departure taxiways at Heathrow) with Kevlar fuel tank liners, to
prevent a repeat of the Gonesse disaster, or with the new specification
tyres and which had been robbed for spares over the last three years. Of
less significance, they were also not modified internally or refurbished as
G-BOAC/D/E/F & G were. Plans were in progress, allegedly, for this work to
take place (and to return BA to a seven flying Concorde fleet) and for the
second daily New York flight to be reinstated, just prior to Airbus pulling
the plug on maintenance and Air France throwing in the towel. The costs
associated with making the airframe flightworthy for a one-way ferry flight
would have been too astronomic to contemplate.

ITYF that movement details will be kept as quiet as possible. However,
should they find their way into the public domain then the above website
will be first with the news.

The nose is still attached, I believe. The requirement was to reduce
the width and height for the journey, and then reassemble in Scotland.

Indeed.

Can't believe I was slumbering in bed when all this was happening a few
streets away. However, went down to the quay this evening to have a nosey
and was most impressed.

The barge is huge, and totally fills the channel to the west of Isleworth
Ait. The barge has been turned to face downstream ready for the off next
week sometime. Even better, you can have a beer in the garden of the London
Apprentice and contemplate past glories as Concorde sits right next to you
:)

You can only see the top half of the fuselage and it looks a bit sad with
its wings & tail clipped, but at least they put the nose back on.

One lasting benefit of Concordes trip via Isleworth - we now have brand new
lamposts right the way down Park Road as the old ones evidently had to be
lopped to aid Concordes passage! :)

Concorde was down inside the barge this afternoon, totally invisible.
Not sure if they'll raise her again before she heads downstream,
expected on Easter Monday 12 April. If anyone finds out what time she
will depart Isleworth, please post here.
