Canary Wharf Jubilee Line Station - eastern exits

Just thought some of you lot might be interested to know that on Monday
at 1pm they're finally opening the 2 eastern exits at Canary Wharf
Jubilee line station.

That's only 4 years after the rest of the line was opened!

Although, to be fair to them, I suspect the wait was more to do with the
fact that until a few months ago there wasn't really anything at that
end of Canary Wharf to make it worth while opening these exits rather
than them taking 4 years to install an escalator or something...

Will anyone be there to mark the opening? Well, If Little Chef have someone
to mark their extension that allows room for 5 more tables, you'd think LU
would :p

I wish they would hurry up and complete the Bow Water park, or whatever
it is called, and open the other exit at Canning Town station - *far*
more convenient, that would be!

Cool. They'll probably have the lifts working by 2008.

When I went on one of the tours of the station at the time of its
opening they estimated three to five years before the East end opened,
so they were just about right.

You are correct, the reason given was that it would not open until
completion of the development of the area. It does seem strange that
it was fully fitted-out, even to the extent of having telephones
fitted, I seem to remember.

It did, however, recently (within the last couple of months) had a new
gateline installed.

And the model of gates they are using is completely new, and one that
I've never seen anywhere on the network.

Yes, they seem to have the yellow pads builtin to the main unit,
instead of being added on.

They'd also have to have had to replace all the signs pointing to the
exits at that end of the station because from what I could see, they
all pointed to 'Great Wharf Road'. Which was presumably what Canary
Wharf was originally going to call that road on the eastern side of
the estate before they decided on 'Upper Bank St'.

I remember reading on here a few months ago that they wouldn't open
the new entrance until they got longer/more frequent trains. Whatever
happend to that?

Longer trains are due in 2006.

No - I meant whatever happened to the excuse that they couldn't open
the other entrance til there were longer trains? Various posters on
here were saying it was to deliberately regulate flow into the
station.

I was always under the impression that the buildings nearest to the
eastern exit simply weren't busy enough to justify opening the eastern
exit, but now that they are, it was good to do so, instead of waiting
until 2006.

Slightly offtopic: can the current Jubilee Line signalling handle
seven-car trains?
