White Hart Lane station to be renamed Tottenham Hotspur

I think they should rename Northumberland Park station at the same time
as renaming / relocating Angel Road... they have to redo every map and
line guide anyway, so they can rename Northumberland Park for nearly
free (apart from replacing bus blinds).

The current name is poor, since approximately half of the road called
Northumberland Park has White Hart Lane as its nearest station, and it
also duplicates a station name on the Tyne & Wear Metro. Tottenham
Hotspur East would do, or Tottenham Park or Tottenham Marsh. (The
original name was "Marsh Lane" for a decade, then bizarrely just "Park"
for 70 years, then "Northumberland Park" for a century.)

The ES is also reporting it, but I think using the Guardian as the source:

It seems unclear how much the Club is paying TfL. Given how broke the
latter is, it should be aiming to make a decent profit from the deal.

It's a public building where up to 62,062 people will descend from Wales
and Scotland, and even fly in from America, to watch rock concerts and
the like. Naming the station after the building makes sense.

More fool them.

Naming the station after the building makes sense.

That's a matter of opinion.

Until they get a sponsor who pays for its name to be changed.

Assuming two sell-out crowds every week, which clearly isn't going to
happen, that's roughly the same number of visitors as the Tate Modern.
And yet that doesn't have a station named after it. Perhaps that's a
tacit acceptance that association football fans and those who go to
stadium pop concerts are too thick to look things up on a map.

Ooh, get her.

AFAIK, the TM never offered to pay to rename Blackfriars. If they had,
it would presumably have been considered.

IIRC Kew Gardens has signs on the platform saying "Alight here for the
National Archives". By your logic, that is a tacit acceptance that only
thick people visit the National Archives.

I think that's unlikely.
