Underground Train Drivers and Personal Hi Fi's

Are underground train drivers allowed to use personal hi fi's, the driver
(if that is the correct term) on the Victoria line this evening was. They
will want the first carriage left empty for a quick game of squash between
stations next, if Bob Crow gets his way.
Anybody prepared to quote the regulations on this.

Kevin

Personal hifi's what?

The answer is, no they are not allowed to use personal hifis (or mobile
phones for that matter).

I've seen them wearing foam earplugs (which presumably is ok?),
especially on the Vic line.

Maybe the original poster mistook them for headphones?

Hmm. Borderline case, I feel. The OP could plead use of an apostrophe in
a context "where its omission might posibly lead to confusion"
[Fowler/Burchfield]. On the other hand, he omitted two question marks
and joined two sentences with a comma, which are *much* more serious
offences.
;-)

Glad to hear it.

Firstly, thanks for spelling the name of the leader of the RMT union
correctly!

Secondly, no, train operators are not allowed to use personal hi-fis, are
you sure that is what it was and not personal protective equipment (PPE) -
ear defenders, which they are?
If you are sure it was the former, please send a message to
stating line, direction of travel, where you
boarded, train number and / or carriage number.

Although a driver on the Victoria Line would have great difficulty using
a mobile phone!

It was the two wires dangling down from his ears that gave the game
away. He needs to be disciplined for stupidity alone. At least use a
hifi with black wires, not light grey, they stand out like a sore
thumb. The train number was 275.
