TfL Real-Time Information - A classic cock-up

Hi gang,

Was just looking at the TfL Real-Time Information page when I came
across the following:

Brixton Station on the Victoria Line southbound only has been closed due
to defective escalators.

Victoria Line trains are not serving this station southbound only.
This will affect journeys from 13:35 on 28/09/04 until further notice.
The station remains open for passengers travelling Northbound.

Well, it made me chuckle anyway...

It's not that strange. All it means is that passengers will not be
allowed to alight from trains arriving at (i.e. terminating at) Brixton;
they'll ll get turfed off one stop early. However, you can still get on
a train at Brixton.

See...Martin obviously is a person of knowledge.....

Its a regulation that you cant operate an 'underground' underground station
without an up escalator working. Something to do with people having heart
attacks and emergency escape etc.
However i think they may still be contravening this as if there was an
emegency the only way out is walking up....or by train. And most of the
people at Brixton always seem to gravitate to the train thats not going
next. So at least a few minutes before all people are evacuated.
