Default Councillors back tube opposition

Councillors back tube opposition

From Watford Observer Friday, October 8, 2004

SOLIDARITY was shown by councillors last week when they unanimously agreed to
back the Keep Croxley Green group, who openly oppose the building of a London
Underground depot in the area.
Speaking at the Croxley Green Parish Council meeting on Thursday, September
30, Councillor Nick Bennett said that although various members of the council
had shown individual support for the campaign, it was important residents
understand they have the full backing of the parish council.
It was also agreed that if the residents group can formalise an official
status, starting with appointing a chairman and treasurer, the council will
consider any application made to them for funds.
The application to build the rail track replacement depot on Green Belt land
at Long Valley Wood was rejected by Three Rivers District Council last week,
but London Underground is expected to appeal the decision.
The company has until December 16 to lodge an appeal.
MP for South West Hertfordshire, Richard Page, has said that he will support
the residents if the case reaches appeal.
The Keep Croxley Green group are urging residents to write to Mr Page at the
House of Commons and voice their objections so that if the case does reach
appeal, opposition to the proposals is known to be strong.
