A23 closure

Last night for about 3 hours the junction of Brixton Hill with the South
Circular was taped off with a police sign indicating a collision. An unusual
kind of collision with only one vehicle involved - a London bus. Many
police in attendance including guys in white overalls.

This is about the third time the A23 has been completely shut between
Streatham Hill and Brixton Hill in the last couple of years and there's
never been any news about what happened.

Anyone here on that bus, perchance?

What time are we talking about? For once, I didn't go down to Streatham
last night - I often do on a Tuesday - but there was no sign of anything
this morning.

Husband, who *did* go down into Streatham from Brixton (in the car) at
about 9.00 pm, and returned at about 10.30, said nothing, and although
he would normally go via King's Avenue and out on to Streatham High Road
at Streatham Hill Station, that route gets very blocked when there is a
problem on the A23.

Ceefax page 164 tells all

A 14-year-old boy has been struck by a bus in south-west London while
running away from police officers. The teenager was hit by the 109 bus
on Tuesday evening in Brixton Hill, Brixton. He is in a critical
condition in a south London hospital. Police said they had spotted a
group of teenagers who may have been involved in a number of attempted
street robberies when the boy and the others ran off.
