Carnets v. Oyster

Hi,

Now that the oyster pre-pay is the same price as a carnet for zone one
single journeys, is there any advantage in continuing to use carnets?

There is if you have already bought them or don't want to pay the £3
oystercard deposit

Or mess arround when your oyster card (frequently) breaks, or have Ken track
you

Everything above is the personal opinion of the author, and nothing to do
with where he works and all that lovely disclaimery stuff.
Posted in his lunch hour too.

Like the other poster mentioned, if you don't want to pay the £3 deposit
for the Oyster, then yes, otherwise no. I always found Carnets a bit of
a pain to carry around; Oyster also gives cheaper fares out of Zone 1
and on buses (replacing the Saver if you used them too).

If you make Tube journeys frequently without needing a season ticket
then personally I feel that the deposit is irrelevant, as it is
outweighed by the benefit of not having to queue up to buy paper tickets
each time (or not having to remember to carry a bunch of Carnets
around), and by the ability to use on bus or Tube.

Once/if price capping comes in, IMHO Oyster will be generally far
superior to all paper tickets, even given the £3 deposit. For the
moment, I find it pretty useful anyway.
