Withdrawal of Route 705

Hi gang,

I was just perusing the TfL Buses "Upcoming Service Changes" page and I
noticed that route 705 (Paddington - Liverpool Street, Limited Stop, via
Victoria and London Bridge) is to be withdrawn from the 21st of May.
Last buses will be the 1950 from Paddington (due into Liverpool Street
at 2103) and 2015 from Liverpool Street (due into Paddington at 2130) on
the 20th.

It's a shame to see it go as it provided a useful service, though the
timetable was never particularly taxing, or frequent...

The death of the Stationlink services. Unfortunately, there aren't
existing direct bus links covering all parts of the lost 705 service...
Paddington will have no direct bus to Waterloo, London Bridge or
Fenchurch St, Victoria no direct service to London Bridge or Fenchurch
St, and Waterloo no direct service to Fenchurch St.

Are any alternative arrangements available for those with mobility
problems who can't really use the Tube?

Yup...You get a Taxi. *coff* All the bus routes involve 1 or 2 changes,
with journey times of at least an hour.

Judging by the loadings I've seen, that's exactly what people did.
Despite the custom buses (ex-Stationlink) with 4 (or was it 6?)
wheelchair spaces, I only recall seeing a wheelchair user on board
once.

I see a couple of 705s passing the office every day, and I have never
seen more than 3 people on the bus. Usually it's empty.

However - it's a good route for a pub crawl. 8 stops across a leisurely
Saturday or Sunday afternoon...
