Colour blindness on London Underground

Hi,

Does anyone know if people with Red/Green colour deficient vision are
allowed to work LUL P-Way? If so, what proficiences are they allowed
to hold?

Greg

The answer is an obvious no for plainly obvious reasons like 'Ooh that's a
red flag, no hold on, it's green' etc etc

A young friend of mine was all set to begin his engineering apprenticeship
with LUL. However, he failed the medical test when they (and he!) discovered
his red-green colour blindness, and they withdrew their offer :-(

Colour Blind Test is Mandatory for all track staff who need to go the track
in Traffic Hours. Engineering Hours no requirements, but you cannot
undertake protection duties .

BTW no such thing as LUL P-Way - it was all privatised. Will be TubeLines or
Metronet now or one of their subbies.

We had a colour blind apprentice in our year, though he wasn't allowed
anywhere near the track as you would expect.

My young friend's experience pre-dated the Disability Discrimination Act :-(
