Station Changes

From Watford Observer Friday, September 9, 2005

Station Changes
TICKET offices at scores of London Tube stations will have their
opening hours dramatically slashed next year, as part of network-wide
plans by London Underground. As part of the changes, Croxley Green and
Moor Park Metropolitan line stations will be unstaffed every weekend.
This comes despite concerns expressed from the public over safety since
the July terrorist attacks in London. The changes are due to come into
force in January.

Terrorism aside, it's not all that surprising. Hamburg's U- and
S-Bahnen, for example, have *no* staffed stations, except for some
ticket offices which are opened at the start of the month only for
season ticket renewals. There used to be platform dispatch staff, but
these have been replaced by DOO monitors and such.

Same with Munich.... Bloody Germans still fine you though, even if it was
impossible for you to buy a ticket..

You're expected to buy a ticket from the machine which should
accept cash. There is case law in Germany that if it doesn't accept
cash you *do* have have a lawful excuse, so presumably if there is
a cash machine you *are* expected to use it.
