Any news on if the 13 will convert early to doored buses in advance of
the official date?

Yes the best from the remaining 3 routes will go to the heritage
services. The 159 got a lot of the refurbed RMs from the 19 while the 38
has a sprinkling as well.

As they are TfL routes I imagine it will be all red. I won't be
disappointed if Stagecoach use their old RM livery which was always very
smart.

A contact in Stagecoach bemoaned to me recently that they were only
going to be allowed a small fleetname on the heritage RMs.

I hope there's a proper single traditional livery common to both
services with gold LT or TfL fleetname and that the operators' ID is
banished to the sidelines.

Since it is meant to be a heritage route it should surely be in
heritage 'London Transport' livery!

If they wanted to the operator could also put their name in large
letters on a suitable advertising poster. I presume their name &
address will also be in small letters in the traditional position.

- while I wouldn't want it as the "standard" for the heritage vehicles,
one would be nice as indicative of an interesting period in the
vehicles' operation.

That would be fun!

For what it's worth, I think there would have been some merit on running
one of the heritage routes as the erstwhile "Shoplinker". With much
wider use of Travelcards, Oyster and so on people are more likely to
make extra "hop on" journeys when in Central London nowadays and - if my
clients' behaviour is anything to go by, a combined heritage ride and
chance to get easily and above ground between Oxford Street/Regent
Street and Knightsbridge would be very welcome.

As an aside, has anyone ever produced a model in Shoplinker liver?

As time has moved on since this thread started, once again can I ask
how many Routemasters remain on the 13? Are any of the new buses in
service yet? If so, how many?

As an aside, I believe the new TfL specification includes just a single
front route number and destination, with no via points at all. A
dreadful provincial practice reminiscent of the worst "sod the public"
days of the NBC and cash-strapped independant operators. Truly the
'London Bus' as a design classic and institution is now dead!!!

What a contrast with Scotland's capital, with the same modern vehicle
types as in London having proper 3-apperture roller blinds (no ugly dot
matrix), rear destination displays, even via points changed if the bus
is turning short (the famous 'part route' display); and are controlled
electronically from the driver's cab.

Too Bloody true matey.
Worse still is that the entire gubbins is readily available through
McKenna`s and known as Powerblind.
Sadly because it`s largely mechanical rather than sexy electronic based,the
Engineers are running scared of it cos it might need a bit of greasing every
now and then.
Laziness is catching......
