Zone 1-6 Travelcard holders will be able to travel without further
payment on HeathrowExpress and Connect services this weekend, 15/16
October.

Ordinary LU single tickets to Heathrow will *not* be accepted on these
services; it must be a Z1-6 Travelcard. Even though Heathrow Connect
services call at stations outside Z1, you will not be able to travel to
Heathrow on a Z2-6 or other Travelcard which excludes Z1; it must be a
Z1-6 Travelcard.

This is because of the planned closure of the Piccadilly between Hyde
Park Corner and will also apply next weekend, 22/23 October. There
will be other dates in 2006 and 2007.

I'll be passing through London at the weekend on a ticket to go
elsewhere. Will I be able to make this side-journey on Oyster pre-pay?

No. It needs to be a Z1-6 Travelcard (Oyster-based or otherwise) or a
One Day Travelcard. Freedom Passes will also be valid. Nothing else
will do.

What about passengers landing at Heathrow - will they be able to buy a
travelcard there? Presumably if the Piccy line isn't operating, then
the LUL station wouldn't need to open - if so, where would the punters
get their travelcard?

cheers

The Piccadilly is still operating between Heathrow and Acton Town - so
the LU ticket office will be open. In any case, I think the Heathrow
Express machines and office sell travelcards, as many people want them
for onward travel once they get to Paddington.

The Piccadilly Line *is* open between Acton Town and Heathrow; I
therefore presume that the ticket-office will be open and that landing
passengers will be able to obtain Travelcards there.

OK; I'm afraid I'd been confused by this in the original posting:

and I had made the wrong assumption.

Mea culpa! You would have been unable to have made the wrong assumption
if I had included the words 'and Acton Town' after 'Hyde Park Corner' as
I had inteded to.

Sorry.

On the last such weekend, LU staff at the entrance to the station were
advising passengers what to do, and advised those heading for central
London to buy a Travelcard at the LU station and then walk round the
corner to catch a HEx.

Note that passengers should not expect to be able to buy just a
Travelcard at the HEx ticket ofice. People who turn up at the HEx
station without a ticket are likely to be regarded as HEx or Connect
passengers, amd will be sold a normal-priced ticket for those services.

I note TfL publicity states:
"If you are in possession of a Travelcard which does not cover all 6
zones, you can purchase a ticket extension to use Heathrow Express and
Connect services".

Okay, does anyone know if these extension tickets are priced as LU
zone extensions? Would seem a little strange if this is the case since
LU single/return tickets are not being accepted on Heathrow
Express/Connect.

Also are Young Persons Railcard discounted All Zone Day Travelcards
accepted on Heathrow Express during these weekends? I presume they are
since the publicity only refers to Student and New Deal discounts not
being valid.
