Season tickets on oyster, refund vouchers, prepay balance and refunds

Just filling in an online customer charter form and noticed that they
have added a new option to have the refund loaded onto an Oyster card at
the gates of a particular station.

I assume this would be quicker than waiting for the voucher to come in
the post.
However I assume it will be loaded as prepay balance
This would only be useful to me if, when I come to renew my season
ticket, I can make use of that balance to offset the cost.

Does anyone know if this can be done?

Don't know, but I made a claim a few weeks ago and I am wondering (as
a NR paper travelcard holder) whether I will be refunded the 'Pay as
you go' fare or the 'Cash' fare when the voucher comes. Hmm...
