Default DLR Capacity Enhancement Phase 2: North & East Routes

DLR have released details of the next phase of their Capacity Enhancement
project to enable 3 car trains to run on the Stratford and Beckton
routes. Interestingly, as well as extending the platforms of all stations
(except Custom House, Beckton Park and Cyprus which can already
accommodate 3 car trains, and Royal Victoria which will will see major
works as part of the Stratford International extension), Phase 2 also sees
a proposal to alter the Delta junction (where the Bank/Stratford lines
meet). The proposal sees a fly-under created for Bank/Lewisham services,
meaning that they avoid the junction. It will also mean that
Bank/Lewisham services will not be able to call at West India Quay as it
completely bypasses the station. The aim appears to be to create extra
capacity for new services from the Royal Docks to Canary Wharf as well as
more Stratford services.

More details on DLR's website:

Just out of interest...

Presumably the City Airport/Woolwich extensions are already ready for 3
cars so they wont be needed to be upgraded again in a few years?

Is Gallions Reach used by anyone yet? I'm curious about its ratio of
(passengers served so far) over (closures for platform extension). Maybe
they should just close it when the line goes 3-car. (The situation at
Pudding Mill Lane is different, because half of the trains have to stop
there anyway to allow trains in the other direction to pass.)

Fairly significant levels of development now exist to the east of the
station, and there's a large retail park to the northeast (which buses
in the area now serve too) plus the Norton Healthcare place close by to
the southeast. So the traffic generators are arriving.

It's also going to be an important interchange station - with East
London Transit when that arrives, with the Greenwich Waterfront services
across the Thames Gateway Bridge if/when that arrives (although the new
Beckton Riverside station on the Dagenham branch might do that too), and
between Beckton and the Dagenham DLR branch when that appears.
