Taxi fare from Heathrow to central London?

Anyone happen to know how much it costs these days to take a taxi from
Heathrow to central London. I am staying in Bloomsbury and trying to
figure out the most convenient and economical way to get there. My
friend and I will undoubtably have a few bags so I figured taxi might
be the best way.

Thanks in advance.

Apparently around 50 quid for a taxi. Hotelink shuttles would be a cheaper
option if you have a few bags, at 17 quid each..
See http://www.hotelink.co.uk/ Personally I stick to one roller case and a
small backpack and catch the tube.

.... quotes 40-45 UKP, although it could easily be nearer 50, depending
on the time of day and traffic.

Piccadilly line direct from Heathrow to either Holborn or Russell Square
will be very much cheaper and may well be quicker.

The trains from Heathrow have reasonably adequate luggage areas by the
doors and should be fine unless you have a lot of large suitcases.

(If you are arriving at Terminal 4, let us know, as Heathrow Terminal 4
station is closed until September.)

If you do want to avoid the tube for whatever reason, you'll still find
it cheaper (and quicker) to get the Heathrow Express (a dedicated
non-stop fast train) into Paddington station and continue from there by
taxi to Bloomsbury, a journey across central London.

Note that the Heathrow Express is considerably more expensive than the
Tube.

Not necessarily. In the original posting (on another newsgroup) it was
indicated that there were two people. As such the costings are
*marginally* in favour of HeX, when all factors are taken into account.
For 3, 4 or 5 people it is cheaper to take a taxi than HeX

(and quicker)

That very much depends upon the final destination and the time of day.
During morning or evening rush hour train is quicker to most
destinations, but outside these times taxis can (and frequently do)
beat the *total* time when you take waiting for trains, etc into
account.

Thans you all for the information. It will prove helpful.

Looks like I am either going to take a taxi for the scenic effect or
take the tube (for the economic effect).
