I would guess the idea is similar to the driverless trains that feed
Kennedy Airport NY?

....or the Westinghouse-built systems at Stansted and Gatwick. (Though
the article says this system has been built by Bombardier.)

You wait - it's only a matter of time before they become sentient and
go on strike demanding more RAM!
