i am planning to travel from Mill Hill Broadway to Brighton either
thursday/friday

are their any delays or problems that i should know about?

Lets just look into our crystal ball shall we and what do we see :-

Merstham blockade, not really any problems their but possible congestion
around the area at peak times,
Hot weather plan 60mph speed,

For the rest, maybe wait and see your fate!

Everyone else will be heading down to Brighton for nice weather at the
weekend. Go Thursday. Beat the weekend crowds.

Thameslink trains' complete lack of legroom, overcrowding, extreme heat, etc...

If your ticket allows you to, get to Victoria or Croydon and get on one of the
new trains with air-con, or at least a slammer with decent sized opening
windows!
