DLR in Stratford
As I can see the first of the new platforms wasn't finished in time.
Any idea when it will finally open? |

In time for what? In time to meet previously announced launched date? |

See here for mo http://www.flickr.com/photos/tompage...en/2007/02/03/ Tom |

It looks like they won't finish it even in February... I wonder, what's going on here - they did not do much in mid-2006, then suddenly started quick construction works, and now there seems to be some kind of pause again... |

I know next to nothing about construction, but I imagine the amount of work one can see happening is not always proportional to the actual work that's going on - some stages like wiring, inspection, approval probably are less visible, but still crucial. Let's see what happens... |

See here for mo http://www.flickr.com/photos/tompage...en/2007/02/03/ Tom Snap - I've taken a few photos too, most of them from the same angles as yours, but I didn't take any shots from the DLR train as you did. Anyhow I don't think utl-ers need to see a slightly less good set of near-duplicate photos so I won't bother uploading them (not that I could do so anyway at the mo as I can't find the damn cable to enable me to transfer them to my computer!). A few weeks back when on a long cycle ride I went and poked around Gibbins Road where the new side entrance to Stratford station will be - it's quite a quiet residential area, mostly low rise small houses with a high rise tower as well, quite a contrast to the hustle and bustle of the main entrance to Stratford. I wonder how much the new entrance will change this ambiance. |

I used to live on a road where what appeared to be a seance was held, by candlelight in the front room visible to all passers on the street. Nowadays I'm entertained by a lady who, on sundays (presumably en route to and from church but who am I to presume such things) gets on my local bus and sings a few hymns before grasping my hand and 'blessing' me with love. She's great! Meanwhile there's a young guy who I've encountered whilst perambulating who paces up and down under a bridge and sings Ghanaian gospel tunes. Indeed I've seen many intriguing things that are far odder. All that said, incessant chanting can sound a bit weird. I shall listen out for it if I'm in Stratford late in the evening some day. This is veering wildly off-topic, so I'll stop now ;) |

I'm not a connoiseur of computer fairs but if I was to want to attend one in the future then perhaps the biggest in Europe isn't a bad start. Anyway it's always useful to have such titbits of London knowledge. Is it any good? I don't know how to measure goodness. I like that, an exquisitely noncommital answer! |
