At the *exit* of the bus station is a set of traffic lights. There are your
normal three-colour jobbies facing up and down North End Road and into the
bus station. There are also single red lights either side of the exit,
facing *out* of the bus station. They don't seem to light up, and there's no
reason why they would, since no vehicle would ever see them. Does anyone
know why they are there?

I can't remember the exact path National Express coaches take at Golders
Green, but they certainly go in the opposite direction to TfL buses
inside the station parallel to North End Road. Perhaps it's something to
do with them.

Thanks. They go in the same way as the buses, and out the same way as the
buses. Unlike the buses, they do a full lap inside the station. Maybe they
used to go in the other way though, it would explain why the light is no
longer used. But I can think of no reason why the coaches would have needed
their own lights, rather than just obeying the lights facing up and down
North End Road. A coach couldn't have sat in North End Road when the normal
traffic light was green without getting in everyone's way. And why just red
lights, and no green?
